I have a right to say “no”, we all do. Then I read the course text, When I Say No, I Feel Guilty, and delivered the program. You may have a guilty feeling which makes you give a “yes” to the request while it actually deserves a “no”. That learning turned out to be critical in my personal development. All I know is that I am exhausted with feeling guilty for saying “no”. Unfortunately, it may not be easy to say “no” when someone asks you for something. So, I'm not going to feel guilty anymore. The oldie but goodie When I say no, I feel guilty is a good book as a starting place, even though it is primarily addressed to women in the West. The inner battle was to either avoid saying no, or to say no, but then they feel guilty and take it back later. I'm going to say “no” when that's what I want to say. When I tried to stand up for myself, and say a firm “no”, they would guilt trip me.
